National Park
Each of these unique 'TTRACTION sets features two magnetic ornaments -- a glass locket encasing a 1934 National Park commemorative postage stamp and your choice of one (1) ornament from the 24 metal ornaments in Magnetic West LLC's Southwest, Medallion, Victorian, and Geometric small ornament collections.
The following is some history regarding the "National Parks Issue" from Volume 4 of Max G. Johl's 1938 book on The United States Postage Stamps of the Twentieth Century:
“In 1925, Stephen T. Mather, the First Director of National Parks Service, advocated stamps showing scenes from our National Parks. This matter was taken up with the Post Office Department at intervals during the following seven or eight years, by various officials of the Interior Department and National Parks Service. It was generally agreed that it would be a fine thing but the Post Office Department always pleaded that their schedules were too full and nothing was done. In 1933, Floyd E. Merrill, Editor, Greely (Colorado) Tribune Republican, and an enthusiastic stamp collector, advocated a National Park issue with these words: ‘While the seaboard flocks to Europe on vacations, Uncle Sam misses a great opportunity by not issuing series of pictorials on the National Parks. It would be Federal advertising paid for many times over by philatelists.’ …On May 16, 1934, [one year after philatelist FDR was elected president of the United States], the Information Service of the Post Office Department issued [a] press release [regarding issuance of a series of National Park stamps] in conjunction with the Interior Department’s observing of [1934] as National Parks year."
Notable features from each of the ten parks selected for the series appear in color on the commemorative stamps that range in denomination from 1 cent to 10 cents. Depicted in exquisite detail is El Capitan (Yosemite), the Grand Canyon, Mirror Lake and Mt. Rainier, Mesa Verde's Cliff Palace, the Old Faithful geyser in Yellowstone, Crater Lake and its Wizard Island, the Great Head Peninsula at Acadia, the Great White Throne at Zion, Glacier's Medicine Lake and Mt. Rockwell, and the Great Smoky Mountains.  Care has been taken to match as closely as possible the colors of the stamps to the color(s) of the necklace beads.
